How did you come to get involved with the Hooch?

The Hooch is one of the unique events in the rowing world and I get to be a part of it!  My wife, Ellen, and I started going to the Head of the Hooch when our girls started rowing for St. Andrew Rowing Club (SARC) in Roswell, GA. We have always been involved in what our kids participated in and this was going to be no exception. I became Director of Operations for the club and as such was driving the boat trailer up on Friday morning to the Hooch and wanted to make the most of the weekend by volunteering. I have been in many jobs at the Hooch, such as boat driver, dock worker, trailer parking, bus parking, pedestrian traffic.  Ellen has worked merchandise and has also been working on the starter boat for the past few years.

What inspires you to be a Hooch Volunteer…year after year?

The beauty and the excitement of the Hooch along with the enthusiasm of the volunteers make the weekend fun and exciting. Our girls have gone off to college and beyond but we will still volunteer to see old friends and meet new ones along the way. Plus, I get to see things that others don’t get to see, help people that are in need and doing things that need to be done in order for the regatta to turn out great so that the Head of the Hooch will continue to be one of the premier rowing events in the country.
