Friends of the Hooch, Inc.

Every year the Head of the Hooch regatta requires more than 6,000 volunteer hours! Atlanta Rowing Club and Lookout Rowing Club offer up the majority of those hours and there are several rowing clubs in the local community that also step up to pitch in.

Atlanta Rowing Club

As the founding club of the Hooch in Roswell, GA, the Atlanta Rowing Club continues to provide volunteers to manage and lead the regatta on the Organizing Committee. In addition to those leaders, the Atlanta Rowing Club also requires its more than 250 members to volunteer at the Hooch every year. From running the docks and coordinating the regatta’s schedule to organizing volunteers and managing race timing, the Atlanta Rowing Club continuously recruits members to support the nation’s second largest regatta.

Girls Preparatory School

The continued success of the Hooch has attracted adaptive and para athletes from across the country. The Girls Preparatory School allows para and adaptive rowers to use their dock every year in order to facilitate a shorter distance to the start line. In addition, the Girls Preparatory School also allows the Hooch to use their launches for the regatta.

Chattanooga Juniors Rowing

There are several rowing clubs on the Tennessee River right along the downtown Chattanooga waterfront. Chattanooga Juniors Rowing shares a boathouse with Lookout Rowing Club and has supported the Hooch year after year by helping to setup and take down the venue as well as allowing the regatta to borrow their launches for referees.

St. Andrew Rowing Club

The Head of the Hooch regatta originated on the Chattahoochee River in Roswell, GA. St. Andrew Rowing Club is just a mile up river from the Atlanta Rowing Club boathouse and has provided support for the Hooch through volunteers and use of their launches. Although their boathouse is over 100 miles away, St. Andrew Rowing Club continues to be a key supporter of the nation’s second largest regatta!

Atlanta Juniors Rowing Association

The Atlanta Juniors Rowing Association is just a five minute walk from the Atlanta Rowing Club and they continue to provide support to the Hooch by allowing the regatta to borrow their launches. Each year, the regatta requires more than 35 referees to be on the water at any given time during racing. This would not be possible without the contributions of the numerous rowing clubs in Chattanooga, TN and Atlanta, GA.

Allatoona Rowing Association is a new club for youth and masters rowers, based on Lake Allatoona in Woodstock, Georgia. The club is committed to providing volunteers and launches to support the Head of the Hooch, one of the world's largest regattas. The regatta is an ongoing benefit to the rowing community!

Row Georgia

Row Georgia first enjoyed the Hooch in 2015 as Peachtree City Rowing Club, and it is their favorite regatta to attend. Each year, their athletes are excited to join the competition and volunteers for 2 days of rowing festivities. Row Georgia parents help alongside volunteers from other clubs providing services such as driving launches for referees and providing assistance on the docks. Row Georgia has also contributed launches to the Hooch in order to ensure that there is a working fleet of watercraft for the Hooch’s Referee Corp.
